ABSTRACT
This experiment was held in March-April 2005 at Puhawang Island waters in South Lampung
regency, to study the effect of different of fish baits to abundance and biomass of coral trap’s
catching. There were five fish baits i.e squid, shrimp, fish, goat’s bone, and roasted coconut;
and equipped with control (without fish bait) as treatments. Each treatment had 3 repetitions.
The result showed that effect of fish baits were not significantly to coral trap’s catching, both
abundance of fishes and their weight. Fishes caught dominantly were Nemipteridae
(Threadfin breams, Whiptail breams) and consist of twin-lined threadfin bream (Nemipterus
isacantus), yellow-tipped threadfin bream (Nemipterus nematopus), saw-jawed monocle
bream (Scolopsis ciliatus), and butterfly whiptail (Pentapodus setosus).
